Alexa’s Adorable Garden Baptism Celebration

Alexa’s Adorable Garden infused Baptism celebration took place in February.  You would have never thought that in Chicago we would have had such a beautiful, sunny and warm day but we did! The event took place in probably one of our most favorite restaurants in the Chicagoland area, Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar, not only because of the delicious food but the decor and ambiance at this place is so welcoming and so true to a traditional, yet modern, Greek restaurant found in Greece!

Elaine, Alexa’s mom, gave us one direction and that was to incorporate green into the decor and invitations.  We have to be honest here, sometime our best ideas come from something as simple and straightforward as that.  So, we kept the custom invitations and the Baptismal candles in a simple and elegant design of green and white.  The invitations had a hand embossed A placed over bright green ribbon in a shimmery grey enclosure.  The Baptismal candles were wrapped in white fabric with texture and adorned with little white daisies and a large dahlia.

The green and shimmer grey color palette was carried over to the welcome “table” tree favors and place cards.  We hung the place cards, along with Jordan almonds, on the olive tree found at Plateia using the same color green ribbon found on the invitations. Guests were able to walk around the tree to find their place card easily and in a non-traditional table setting.

For the event we knew we wanted to incorporate hanging pieces since the tables are so narrow. Usually when working in a restaurant, the design has to stay very linear and narrow, so hanging above gives us more of an impact.  Our statement piece in the room was found over the head table.  We hung branches over the head table and filled them with fresh eucalyptus and hung fresh floral and candles from the branches.  This piece is something we have wanted to put together for a while and we were so excited to create this for baby Alexa’s special day!

For the long family style tables found a few steps above the main room, we hung woven baskets with fresh floral and candles. The continuous look of vases and ceramic pots down the tables were filled with white, orange, yellow and green florals.  The colors were so cheerful and worked perfectly in the neutral color space.

If you follow us along on Instagram and here and Facebook  you know that Peter and I baptized baby Alexandra.  Elaine is my cousin and we couldn’t be more excited and happy to add another layer to our relationship.  Elaine and Peter, thank you for asking us to be part of Alexa’s life in such a special way! We love you guys!  We wish Alexa congratulations on her special day!
